Why This Works
Being a godparent is one of the few relationships in modern life where you were specifically chosen by another adult to be in a kid's corner forever. The role does not come with a lot of language. You attend the christening, you show up at holidays, you remember her birthday. A letter is a way of saying out loud, on paper she can keep, what the role is actually for.
Most godparent letters get written on one of three days — the christening, an 18th birthday, a wedding. All work. The letter you write the year of the christening can be sealed and delivered on her 18th if she is currently 16 or 17 (our delivery window is two years). Otherwise, pick a meaningful milestone within the next two years.
We hold the letter sealed until the date you choose. She opens it at the milestone, in your handwriting, with the kind of words a godparent is supposed to be able to give but rarely has the moment to.
